Ovar Court Dome

Another fascinating side of the court at Ovar: a copper dome punctuates the end of the gallery at the point where it receives the stair.

It’s uncanny how everything here could be described in Classical terms, yet not one of the elements is canonical in its formality. We are especially fond of the elegant, and now most likely illegal, iron railings with their curves and outlined baluster shapes.

Note also the implied rustication at the street end of the last bay, with big, almost vermiculated square panels posing as brute masonry.

Ovar, Tribunal.
