Ovar Old Church

Ovar also has, surprisingly, some Baroque remnants still standing. One is this wonderful church from 1746 (closed, like everything else, on a Sunday afternoon) with voluptuous moldings and volutes and vigorous pilasters bookending its façade. It is a slightly naive composition, where the pediment above the main architrave seems like an afterthought. Sort of a provincial Nasoni (himself not the most urbane Architect in the kingdom), it is nevertheless fun in its heaviness, and poetically forgotten in its own corner of the world.
