Batalha Simple Cloister

The secondary cloister in Batalha is clad in a minimal, national Gothic: limestone walls and paving, simple corbels, stone ribs, plaster vaults and paired octagonal colonnettes. The top story is even more simple, and can be seen in this earlier post.

Relatively mundane compared to the flamboyant ornaments (literally) next door, its grace comes from the play of light and shade under its austere simplicity.
