A beautiful garden surprises the visitors to the ex-convent, turned into a hotel years ago by the dean of Portuguese Modernism, Fernando Távora. Contrary to the stark and austere (and some would say lifeless) interiors, the Baroque steps and pool in the back are vibrant with energy: covered in moss, surrounded by green, and hardly a parallel line as the stones sank into their resting places.
