Porto Foz Obelisks

These two obelisks used to stand on the grounds of the Quinta da Prelada, in the other side of town. For some reason they were moved into the poshest neighbourhood in Porto, in front of the ocean. They now frame the entry to the Passeio Alegre and welcome the masses who come on sunny weekends to see how the other half lives.

Designed by Nasoni in his ebulient northern Baroque, they stood guard on their cannonball feet to last winter’s strongest gales and showers, on the dark and stormy day we visited.
