BEAUX-ARTS SCHOOL PART 2: INTERIOR HALLWAYS

The gigantic size of this School is better appreciated looking through its never-ending corridors. The materials are simple but fully articulated: a tile wainscot with curved edges, terrazzo tilles and baseboard with a slight curve for maintenance, simple plaster walls and ceilings. The door treatments change from floor to floor, with simple and graceful overdoor entablatures on the piano nobile.

Now and then some of the original windows have been replaced by generic plastic imitations, but most of them are still the beautiful originals or identical replacements, complete with the hardware system for opening the transom hopper windows.

Finally note the great lettering above the doors, printed in enameled plaques.
