A CIVILIZED FENCE

…is one where books are integrated in its decoration.

The Rodrigues de Freitas, another large school by the the great Marques da Silva, has unfortunately been “renovated” by the State and ravaged inside. The corridors were somewhat similar to the Alexandre Herculano, its materials now replaced by cheap melamine and similar plastic-looking finishes, with visible HVAC ducts going above.

All this to say these are the only publishable images of the building, as at least the main façade was spared and actually simply cleaned up. Note how the massing resembles the Herculano, but the wrought iron gates and fences are much more Deco in Character, with simple scroll figures to accentuate the otherwise grid-like composition.
