“Palace of Commerce” was a pompous name for a grand apartment and office building which lasted about 10 years to construct between the 1940s and 50s. Today most of the interiors of offices and apartments are wiped out, but the beautiful lobbies and exteriors remain in pristine state, along with a penthouse or two.
There was certainly no expense spared on stone and brass, and the style is glamorous greco-deco. Which of course by the time it got finished was far from being the latest fashion. Fortunately today it prevails as a classic and, as it occupies a whole block, a loved city landmark in an up-and-coming area.
