O FARAÓ DO BONFIM | Old Portuguese Stuff

Egyptian revival tomb Porto.

Or, the Pharaoh of Bonfim – an Egyptian revival tomb in the Prado do Repouso, complete with sphinx, tapering metal door and carved half round cornice. Next door we have a classical temple with Piranesian antique details – four pediments, leaf swags, a ziggurat surmounted by an urn with volutes and claw feet.

Funerary architecture can indeed be tacky… but fun for sure.
