DOOR OF MERCY

The door at the Santa Casa da Misericórida (the Holy House of Mercy, in literal translation) is defined by bold and inventive panel moldings and a wrought-iron fanlight transom loosely reminiscent of Georgian patterns. The English have been here trading wine for a couple of centuries at least, and the tall, fake-sash-and-casement-below windows testify to that as well.
