For all fetishists of brass and steel, here it is – the bank vaults in all their shiny silver and golden glory. Even if they were built by an English company, they have been installed (God knows how!) in the undercroft of a Pombaline building right in water-soaked downtown Lisbon soil. These are rooms for architects’ delight, more than anyone – those of us who obsess about grids, precision and a fantasy of pure form seemingly justified with their function. Fortunately not everyone in the world is an architect, or everything would look like this. Which we love, but in moderate dosage!
